A small secret about life…

There is something about being cozy. Being surrounded by warmth, friends, loved ones, happy faces, there is something joyous about color, cleanness, space, good weather, music, scent, and there is something about good company, positive, ambiance, freedom, share, happy thoughts, present moment. It is not about where you are, as much as it is about who you are with, even when you are with yourself. Living the moment is not about waiting for the right moment to live it, but about living each moment as it comes without trying to force change or dwell in the expectations.

Fez

Old Market, Nazareth, Palestine.

I captured this man during my first visit to Nazareth, walking between the authentic Arab Market.

His red tarboush (fez) is what caught my attention.

To me, it resembles unity.

Not a very long time ago, many men from this region wore the fez on top of their heads.

Today, we are a region more segregated than ever.

Our accents are now what differentiate us.

This is how divided we have become.

But this man, who currently lives in the occupied areas of Palestine (Israel) chose to keep his tarboush on top of his head.

Sunset Diaries

And to every end a journey, and to every journey an end.

Our Mother, Amman

By The amphitheater, downtown, Amman, Jordan.

A grass design that says ‘Our Mother, Amman’ with the Jordanian flag on the back left corner, and a street swiper, swiping the dust at the front right corner.

This photograph speaks to me a thousand words.

Without him, what will this image look like? Does he know the worth of his contribution? Or does he see this side of his image in my photograph? How much contribution do we need to do for his self-realization?

Spring in Webdeh

What about closing out the outside world,

What about staying inside your own being exploring your own ventures,

What about not giving a f and listening to your inner sound,

What about being sure your not missing out and instead you explore the movements within you,

What about you ignore it all and just give yourself the chance to explore your being,

Create some art, your kinda art, the art that is just different from anything else, and guess what, it is only art when it does not necessarily make the same sense to everyone else…

What is inside you let it outside,

Make it your outside world,

Make it what you have been missing out on instead,

Make your own art your life.

Have you heard of Prison Island?

You can also spend a day visiting different Island around Zanzibar, we went to Prison Island (also known as Changuu), which was a prison for rebellious slaves, since Zanzibar was a popular slave market (Zanji in Arabic stands for slave; Zanjibar). It is also a home for giant tortoises (turtles) who have been there since 1919. Four tortoises were gifted by the British, the bred quickly into 200 tortoises by the year 1955.

Things to do in Stone Town, Zanzibar

Need a break from the beach? Then it is time to explore the city which I also highly recommend and needs at least a full day, head to Stone Town, it is about an hour and half drive from Nungwi and Paje.

Visit the Emerson Spice Hotel which is truly gem, reserve ahead of time to have a drink or some food at their rooftop, Lukmaan is also a popular local restaurant. Check out the Darjani Market and buy their famous spices, visit the Old Fort, Foodhani gardens, Old Dispensary, Old Slave Market, House of Wonders, shop around, and explore their doors and architecture (they are very famous for their doors).

Culture on Bicycles

There is so much culture and history to explore in Zanzibar. It is said that it has been home for humans for over 20,000 years. Zanzibar was used as a base for trades happening between the Middle East, Africa and India. Zanzibar; a Swahili culture, influenced very much by the Omanis and many Arabs who immigrated and passed through Zanzibar for trade over the years. Zanzibar then became part of the Portuguese empire in 1503. In 1698, Zanzibar became under the Sultanate of Oman. Around the late 1830’s, The Omani Sultan moved the capital of Oman from Muscat to Zanzibar. In 1890 it became a protectorate of Britain until 1963 when Zanzibar finally became an independent country.
